Xbox May Secure GTA6 Exclusive Cloud Streaming Rights at Launch

According to a report from The Verge, Xbox may secure exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6 during the game’s launch period. Xbox head Asha Sharma reportedly revealed during an internal meeting with employees that Microsoft is preparing a service related to GTA6 that other platforms cannot offer for the time being. Should the report prove accurate, Xbox would become the only platform capable of cloud streaming GTA6 following the game’s November release.
Asha Sharma, who leads Xbox, shared the news with staff internally, according to The Verge. The reported arrangement centers on a service connected to GTA6 that competing platforms would temporarily be unable to provide. If the deal materializes, it would give Xbox a notable advantage at launch. The report did not specify how long the agreement would be structured to last, nor which parties beyond Microsoft were involved.

A key point of the report is that players would not need to purchase an Xbox console to access the game. Xbox Cloud Gaming already supports PC, mobile phones, and select smart TVs. Since GTA6 has not yet received a native PC version, the title could theoretically be played on a computer through cloud streaming. For players unwilling to wait for Rockstar to release a PC port, this represents an alternative option.

Cloud streaming cannot fully replace a native PC version, however. Players would lack graphics options, MOD support, and deep performance tuning, while the experience would be affected by network latency and image compression. Separately, Microsoft plans to launch a pay-per-play cloud gaming service starting in November, letting players purchase set hours of streaming access without a long-term Game Pass subscription. If GTA6 is included, it could become a popular way for PC players to experience the game at launch. For those eager to play on day one, this cloud option is worth keeping an eye on.
