Street Fighter Live-Action Movie Debuts Giant Arcade in Times Square

Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment staged a creative pop-up event in New York’s Times Square to promote the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. A giant arcade installation replicating the classic cabinet design appeared on the street, with its transparent glass cabin serving as the game screen. Inside, stunt performers embodied classic characters such as Ryu and Ken. Visitors could interact with the attraction directly, and footage from the scene quickly spread across overseas social media, generating significant buzz for the film ahead of its global debut.
Attendees were able to operate the oversized joystick and buttons mounted on the exterior of the machine. Responding to those inputs, the performers inside reacted in real time, recreating signature moves including the Hadoken, Shoryuken, and jump kicks. The setup also staged the iconic “Round 1” battle opening, bringing the game world into reality in an immersive fashion. The hands-on format invited passersby to stop, watch, and take part in the spectacle.

The installation was only open for a single day, on October 7. Large crowds gathered to watch and film the attraction throughout the event. Clips from the scene spread rapidly across video platforms and social media, drawing international attention. Many Japanese netizens shared footage of the event, remarking that the line between the game and reality had been broken.

The Street Fighter film is directed by Kitao Sakurai. Its story is set in 1993 and centers on the World Warrior tournament. The cast includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Jason Momoa. The movie is scheduled for a global release on October 16. For a franchise defined by its arcade roots, the Times Square spectacle was a fitting tribute, and a clever way to build hype ahead of launch.
