Leaked Mass Effect 5 CG Trailer Surfaces Online, But Is It Real?

A trailer reportedly tied to Mass Effect 5 has surfaced through an online community forum, and the footage is already spreading quickly among fans of the series. The user who shared it posted the link inside a comment thread, explaining that the account was a newly registered throwaway and could not publish a standalone post. The clip runs more than two minutes and consists entirely of CG animation, with no gameplay footage shown at any point. Neither the video nor the account behind it has been verified by EA, leaving the authenticity of the material an open question.
According to descriptions of the leak, the story centers on a weary human military veteran and opens with a tense bar meeting with an asari. Flashback sequences are woven through the footage, including gunfights, the appearance of a krogan, and an intimate scene between the human and the asari. The narrative takes a turn near the end when the soldier’s squad ambushes the asari, who had been posing as an ally the entire time. The clip closes on a logo reading Mass Effect: Universe together with an “coming soon” tag.

Before the footage appeared, a commenter claiming to be an EA employee had already suggested the trailer existed, saying they had seen the finished piece several months earlier. Some fans reacted by saying that just a handful of shots were enough to bring back the familiar sci-fi atmosphere the series is known for, while others initially suspected the whole thing was a joke or an edit. No official confirmation has followed either claim.

Roughly a year has passed since EA finalized a major acquisition, and the company has not yet outlined any development plans for the Mass Effect IP. EA has also not responded to the leaked footage, and both the video and the account that shared it remain unverified, so the content stays unconfirmed for now. The result is a familiar waiting game for the community. Fans may want to keep expectations measured until EA says something official, but the clip has at least restarted the conversation.
