Kingdom Hearts 4 Trailer Shows Playable Mickey, Coco World, and Riku
Square Enix unveiled a four-minute long trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 during D23: Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, held in Anaheim, California, on August 15 (local time). The extended footage marks the first look at segments where players control Donald, Goofy, and King Mickey, with Riku also appearing at the trailer’s conclusion. The publisher confirmed that the latest numbered entry in the Kingdom Hearts series — which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2027 — is scheduled to launch in late 2027.
A new journey setting was revealed: the world of Disney & Pixar’s Coco will appear in the game. The trailer also showcased the story, in which protagonist Sora wakes up in an unfamiliar world called Quadratum, a locale resembling modern Tokyo, and attempts to return to his original world. Meanwhile, Donald and Goofy travel to the underworld in search of clues about the vanished Sora, while King Mickey begins his own search for answers.
Combat in Kingdom Hearts 4 promises fast-paced, dynamic battles with simple controls that allow a wide range of actions. Players can use magic depending on the situation, and a newly introduced ‘Build’ system expands the variety of fighting styles. Sora’s Keyblade comes in different types, each with unique actions that change the approach based on strategy. The game is slated for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Beyond the main game, D23 saw the announcement of an animated series titled Kingdom Hearts (working title), set to stream on Disney+. Additionally, three classic titles — KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) — will be released digitally on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, along with a KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I-III] in physical (Switch 2/PS5) and digital formats. The Disney-Square Enix RPG series has sold over 39 million copies worldwide across 13 titles (20 including Final Mix versions) since 2002. With a late 2027 launch window and so much announced at once, Kingdom Hearts fans certainly have plenty to look forward to.
