Ikari, Dragon Buster, Ninja Gaiden III Join Famicom Classics Today
Three classic titles have been added to the Family Computer (Famicom) Nintendo Classics lineup as of today, September 2, 2026. SNK’s Ikari (怒), Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Dragon Buster (ドラゴンバスター), and Koei Tecmo Games’ Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (忍者龍剣伝III 黄泉の方舟) are now playable through the paid Nintendo Switch Online service on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The subscription grants access to Famicom titles as well as Super Famicom and Game Boy games. The three additions span five years of classic action gaming history.
Originally released in 1986, Ikari is an action shooting game in which players take on the roles of Ralph and Clark to infiltrate enemy territory and destroy an evil organization. The title comes from SNK and offers a military-themed run-and-gun experience typical of the mid-1980s. With its two-character setup, the game provides a straightforward glimpse into the action shooting design of its era.
Dragon Buster launched in 1987 as an action adventure game from Bandai Namco Entertainment. Players control protagonist Clovis, using a combination of sword and magic to hunt down and defeat dragons. The game stands as an early example of the action-adventure genre, built around dragon-slaying objectives wrapped in classic fantasy presentation.
The 1991 action game Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom puts players in control of Ryu Hayabusa, who has been framed for the murder of Irene Lew, delivering the acrobatic ninja action the series is known for. Beyond Famicom, the base Nintendo Switch Online plan also covers Super Famicom and Game Boy libraries, while the Expansion Pack tier adds Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, and Mega Drive titles.
