Ghost of Yōtei Turns One, Adds Sekigahara DLC and Survival Mode
Ghost of Yōtei (ゴースト・オブ・ヨウテイ) launched for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, and now celebrates its first anniversary. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the action-adventure title is the successor to Ghost of Tsushima, which arrived in July 2020 and became a worldwide hit. While it carries forward the same “Ghost” theme, it is not a direct story sequel, instead offering a separate narrative. To mark the milestone, new story content and modes have arrived alongside a Complete Edition.
Set roughly 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1603 in Ezo, the area around present-day Hokkaido. Players control Atsu, a female swordswoman who travels the vast region seeking revenge against the “Yōtei Six,” the group that killed her family when she was a child. The title’s name refers to Mount Yōtei, an actual mountain in Hokkaido that serves as the game’s symbolic landmark and, for Atsu, represents both her homeland and the family she lost.

Exploration emphasizes travel through a beautiful open world. Players gather clues about the Yōtei Six while meeting and interacting with various people, eating, learning shamisen songs, and upgrading equipment. Activities include hot springs, shrines, training grounds, and fox dens, while ink painting replaces the poetry of the previous game. Atsu is a mercenary who will use anything to win, kicking dropped enemy weapons, pulling foes down with a chain sickle, and wielding kunai, bombs, blinding powder, and matchlock rifles. Mentors appear across regions, and rescued wolves can join her fights.

The free “Legends” downloadable content arrived on March 11, 2026, supporting up to four players in online co-op, where players choose one of four roles, raise characters, and battle monster forms of the Yōtei Six. The Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launched on October 1, 2026, bundling a past arc depicting Atsu at the Battle of Sekigahara with Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, which moves between that past and the Ezo of 1603, exploring her relationship with Nagato. It adds the Ashoro-dai area, new skills, armor sets, and gear, plus the roguelike survival mode Most Wanted, with Jin Sakai among playable characters. Existing owners can buy the Complete Edition Upgrade for ¥1,480 (~$10). For lapsed players, the anniversary offers a timely reason to return.
