Final Fantasy: Resonance Hits Platinum as Famitsu Gives 36/40

Final Fantasy: Resonance (《最终幻想:共鸣》), described as the first HD-2D title in the Final Fantasy series, is set to launch on major platforms on October 22, 2026. The first batch of media scores has now been revealed, with all four Famitsu editors awarding 9 points each for a total of 36, placing the game in the publication’s Platinum Hall. The title introduces itself with a distinct visual identity while returning to the franchise’s roots.
The game’s core concept is framed as “what if Final Fantasy had always continued to evolve in pixel form.” To realize this, the developers combine multiple visual techniques to deliver an entirely refreshed visual experience. Alongside the presentation, the game returns to the series’ classic RPG core, bringing back signature elements such as airships, crystals, summon beasts, and moogles to construct an authentic fantasy world. Together, these choices position Resonance as a blend of familiar series traditions and a modernized pixel-based art direction.

Combat in Resonance adopts a strategic turn-based system. Players can break through enemy weaknesses to trigger a stagger state, which unlocks additional action opportunities. These openings can be paired with Resonance ultimate techniques to turn the tide of battle, a design the source describes as maximizing strategic depth. The approach rewards planning and timing rather than reflex-based play, echoing the tactical pacing associated with classic entries in the series.

A playable demo is now officially available, with a file size of roughly 4.8GB. It allows players to experience the complete first chapter, offering an early look at both the turn-based combat and the HD-2D visual style ahead of release. For longtime fans curious about how the pixel-evolution concept plays out, the demo is a reasonable place to start. Final Fantasy: Resonance will arrive on major platforms on October 22, 2026.
