FF7 Revelation Director: No Compromises For Multi-Platform Release

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the closing chapter of the remake trilogy, is set to launch simultaneously on April 8, 2027 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With four platforms arriving on the same day, questions about whether the game would be scaled back have followed the project. Director Naoki Hamaguchi (滨口直树) recently addressed those concerns directly, stating that the development process has not sacrificed game quality in order to accommodate multi-platform adaptation.
Hamaguchi explained that the team is primarily building the game around the hardware specifications of PS5 and PC. Rather than designing downward for the least powerful system, the studio treats those two platforms as its performance reference point. According to the director, the approach allows the team to keep its ambitions intact while still delivering versions tailored to each platform’s capabilities.

To handle the additional platforms, the studio maintains an internal porting group made up of engineers and artists, responsible for optimizing and adapting the game to Xbox and Switch 2. That same team previously handled the cross-platform ports of Remake and Rebirth, giving it substantial experience with the trilogy’s technology and workflow.
“We haven’t made any compromises to the game experience,” Hamaguchi said, noting that instead of cutting content or lowering ambition for lower-spec hardware, the team adjusts asset fidelity and technical implementation so each platform receives the best possible version without damaging core design goals. Revelation runs on Unreal Engine 4 and introduces full open-world exploration, the FITS outfit system, and free navigation aboard aerial warships, with full Simplified Chinese support. For a trilogy finale arriving on four platforms at once, holding the line on scope is a promising sign.
