Eurogamer Gives Three Chinese Games Identical 60/100 Scores

Eurogamer’s reviews of several high-profile Chinese-developed titles have become a talking point after players noticed a striking pattern. As the review embargo lifted for 《影之刃零》(Phantom Blade Zero), users spotted that 《黑神话:悟空》(Black Myth: Wukong), 《燕云十六声》(Where Winds Meet) and Phantom Blade Zero had each received a score of 60 from the veteran overseas outlet. The three identical results, published across different review cycles, prompted discussion in Chinese and international player communities alike.
The repeating 60/100 figure drew attention largely because of the contrast with other reviews published around the same period. Eurogamer awarded a full score to 《龙腾世纪:影障守护者》(Dragon Age: The Veilguard), a result that many players highlighted as evidence of an inconsistent standard. According to the report, the gap between the two sets of scores is what fueled suspicion among readers rather than any single review in isolation.

Eurogamer’s write-ups were not uniformly negative. The outlet reportedly praised the distinctive Eastern art direction of all three titles, along with their characteristic approach to action design. At the same time, the reviews pointed to shortcomings in narrative pacing, combat balance and the level of polish in finer details, which the outlet cited as reasons for settling on a passing grade rather than a higher one.

Responses to the scores have been split. Many players argued that three consecutive 60s felt deliberate and questioned whether the outlet carries a stylistic bias. Others took a more measured view, noting that reviews are inherently shaped by an editor’s subjective judgment and that a single outlet’s score cannot define a game’s quality. The report also noted that on other major review platforms, all three Chinese titles have earned strong overall reception from both critics and players. Whether the pattern reflects a genuine critical consensus or a matter of taste is something readers will have to judge for themselves.
