AMD Driver Leak Reveals PS Next-Gen and Valve Handheld Codenames
According to a report from VideoCardz, AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 graphics driver, officially released on September 29, contains three previously unannounced hardware codenames. AnandTech forum user SixPie reportedly discovered the identifiers ATLite3, AT2, and Gainsborough buried within the driver files. The find quickly drew attention from hardware enthusiasts and leakers, who have begun connecting the codenames to possible future products from AMD, Sony, and Valve. Neither the driver’s publisher nor the platform holders have issued any official statement regarding the codenames, leaving all of the information firmly in the realm of speculation for now.
Leaker Kepler_L2 offered interpretations of all three codenames. The leaker stated that ATLite3 is most likely the internal GPU for Sony’s next-generation PlayStation console, which reportedly carries the development name Orion. AT2, meanwhile, had already surfaced in previous leaks surrounding RDNA5, and is believed to belong to AMD’s next-generation PC graphics lineup. The third codename, Gainsborough, has generated the most discussion, as the leaker speculates it could be the custom APU powering Valve’s next-generation handheld device.
Kepler_L2 pointed to AMD’s naming conventions as supporting evidence for the PlayStation theory. During the development of the PlayStation 5, the console’s GPU was reportedly referred to internally as Navi10Lite. The similar structure of ATLite3, which retains the “Lite” suffix alongside a new prefix, suggests a comparable development-stage designator for a successor console. However, the leaker did not provide documentation directly linking the codename to Sony, so the connection remains an inference drawn from observed patterns rather than confirmed information.
Additional evidence surrounds the Gainsborough codename. Shipping records reportedly show that validation hardware carrying an FF6 BGA package with 1179 contact pins was shipped several times in late July, indicating that verification samples of the chip already exist. VideoCardz cautioned that all of the details originate from driver files and third-party leaks, and that AMD, Sony, and Valve have not officially confirmed that any of the codenames correspond to their products. For now, this is one to treat as an interesting rumor rather than a confirmed roadmap. 🎮
