Sony Ending Physical Discs by 2028 as Capcom Reveals Onimusha Collectors Edition

Sony has announced plans to cease production of physical game discs for all new titles by 2028, a decision that has sparked widespread discussion about digital ownership and game preservation. In a contrasting move, Microsoft appears positioned to benefit through its Windows 11 Xbox mode initiative, which transforms PCs into a console-like experience featuring a full-screen dashboard and Game Pass integration. This system-level approach offers an alternative for players wary of an all-digital future, converting the PC user base into potential subscription service users.
Sony has also launched a PlayStation Plus Online Multiplayer Weekend event from July 3 to July 5, allowing all PS4 and PS5 users to access online multiplayer without requiring a membership. The initiative is officially tied to World Cup events, enabling players to enjoy EA Sports FC 26 online, though all multiplayer games requiring PS Plus will be unlocked during this period. Meanwhile, Capcom has revealed physical edition details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PS5, including a standard edition and a SteelBook collector’s version. The publisher described the product’s finish as resembling a gleaming katana blade, featuring full character artwork with a Warring States period aesthetic.

Producer Kô Shibata has confirmed that Nioh 3, which launched this February, will receive two major DLC expansions. The first expansion is scheduled for release before September 30, 2026, while the second is expected by February 28, 2027. Both DLCs will introduce new story content, enemies, yokai, and equipment, alongside hardcore challenge content tailored for players seeking the most demanding combat experiences. This roadmap provides clear post-launch direction for fans who have already completed the base game.

New details have emerged regarding the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, suggesting that Claire Redfield’s signature herb synthesis system will return with enhancements. According to reports, players will combine herbs with chemical agents in laboratory settings to create more powerful healing items during the first half of the game. The system optimizes inventory management by condensing multiple material slots into a single item, addressing the classic survival horror challenge of limited backpack space. This design draws from Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8, emphasizing resource planning and survival strategy to heighten immersion. The remake is shaping up to be an intriguing project for survival horror veterans.
