Palworld Developers Confirm No Underwater World Due to Technical Limits
Pocketpair studio has officially confirmed that players should not expect underwater content to be added to Palworld (幻兽帕鲁), despite long-standing fan requests for aquatic environments. According to marketing department head John Bucky Buckley, implementing a complete underwater world would require a complete reconstruction of the game. This would not be a minor update but would fundamentally change the game’s core systems and project architecture. The announcement clarifies that technical limitations and resource constraints make this feature unfeasible for the current version of the popular creature-collection game.
Buckley explained that adding underwater content would necessitate rebuilding the game from the ground up. The development team faces a choice between completely reconstructing the existing game or channeling such ambitious ideas into an entirely new project. Interestingly, Palworld itself originated from expanding concepts from the studio’s previous game, demonstrating how major innovations sometimes require fresh starts rather than incremental updates to existing projects.
Technical limitations on various platforms present another significant barrier. The game needs to maintain stable performance on both PC and console systems, and implementing complex underwater mechanics could potentially cause serious performance issues.
