Naughty Dog Reportedly Developing Two Unannounced Single-Player Games
Former Naughty Dog game director Vinit Agarwal has revealed in a recent podcast that he served as game director for a “future game” at the studio for one year before his departure. Agarwal specifically clarified that this project is not the Neil Druckmann-led “Star: Heretic Prophet,” indicating that Naughty Dog currently has at least two unannounced single-player titles in active development. This information aligns with previous official statements from the studio regarding their development pipeline and future projects. The revelation comes from Agarwal’s personal experience during his final year at the renowned PlayStation first-party developer.
Agarwal spent seven years working on “The Last of Us Online” before its cancellation in 2023. Following the project’s termination, he was reassigned to a new title where he served as game director. He stated, “They made me the game director of one of their future games. I did that for a year, and then I decided to take a leap of faith and take a risk.” After completing his work on this mysterious project, Agarwal left Naughty Dog and established a new studio in Japan, marking a significant career transition after his lengthy tenure at the PlayStation-owned developer.
Agarwal’s comments are consistent with Naughty Dog’s previous official communications. When “The Last of Us Online” was canceled in 2023, the studio stated that “more than one” major single-player game was in production. Neil Druckmann also confirmed in May 2025 that aside from “Star: Heretic Prophet,” other projects were in preparation. These statements collectively suggest that Naughty Dog has maintained a robust development pipeline focused on single-player experiences, with multiple titles progressing simultaneously behind the scenes.
The project Agarwal worked on has been in development for at least three years. Given his extensive involvement with “The Last of Us” series and Naughty Dog’s tradition of creating trilogies, widespread speculation suggests this title could potentially be “The Last of Us Part III.” The studio has a history of developing successful three-part narratives across its major franchises. Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony have provided official responses to these rumors, leaving the nature of these unannounced projects as a subject of industry discussion and fan anticipation for future reveals.
