Fūuraiki 5 Celebrates First Anniversary with Mie Road Trip Adventure
July 31 marks the first anniversary of Fūuraiki 5, the motorcycle touring adventure released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on July 31, 2025, with a PC version following on November 27, 2025. Throughout the series, players take on the role of a reporter who travels specific regions of Japan by bike, conducting interviews and taking photographs in pursuit of better articles. Earlier installments toured Hokkaido and Okinawa, while this fifth entry heads to Mie Prefecture. True to series tradition, the game makes extensive use of real photographed scenery, layering live-action backdrops into its travel experience.
The goal of this fifth installment is to roam Mie’s history, nature, and food freely while competing in the media contest known as ‘Mie Con.’ More than 100 locations are on offer, from famous destinations like Suzuka Circuit, Nagashima Spa Land, Shima Spain Village, and Toba Aquarium to lesser-known hidden spots. Players decide which scenes to frame and which photos to publish, making curation a genuine test of skill. It all adds up to a trip that mixes sightseeing with thoughtful editorial work.
Accommodation in the game is built around campsites. Each day follows the same rhythm: wake up, mount the motorcycle in touring mode, and handle interviews and conversations in adventure mode before returning to camp at night. The vast landscapes speeding past were filmed with 360-degree cameras, a technique introduced in the previous entry, delivering immersion so convincing that it feels like the rider’s wind is blowing through the screen. Characters are rendered in 2D against the live-action backgrounds, and encounters with heroines across Mie add depth and warmth to the story. Among them, senior reporter Akane Shikama stands out: she fusses over the rookie protagonist like a seasoned mentor, and her route follows sites tied to Sengoku warlord Kuki Yoshitaka, who served Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Following her storyline subtly teaches both Mie geography and Japanese history. While the previous game received multiple DLC packs, no additional content has been announced for this entry; the main game alone is said to be substantial. With the heatwave continuing, this anniversary offers a fine excuse to enjoy a personal Mie road trip from the comfort of home.
