Eat Sushi or Die! Universe: Multiverse Chaos With 60 Sushi Courses
Eat Sushi or Die! Universe (そろそろ寿司を食べないと死ぬぜ！ユニバース), the second installment in a popular over-the-top action series, is available on Nintendo Switch and PC. The game follows a passionate hero who dies if he stops eating sushi, delivering stylish sushi-eating action that now stretches across the multiverse. To save his beloved sushi, he faces great trials and fierce battles across many worlds. Playing the previous entry is not required — players only need to know this is the adventure of a sushi-loving man.
Players travel through courses in each universe, collecting Sushi Souls earned by clearing stages. Clear conditions are straightforward — eat a set number of sushi pieces or reach the goal. However, the protagonist’s Life Gauge steadily drains over time, so players must constantly replenish sushi while on the move. Enemies also interfere, and dodging them while plotting the shortest route is key. More than 60 courses are available. Eating sushi triggers ultra high-energy voice lines, and spending gari (the in-game currency) unlocks additional line variations. If the Life Gauge runs out, the hero explodes and dies — so as the game itself insists: don’t stop, eat.
The story begins as sushi suddenly vanishes and multiple Earths appear in the sky, with an unknown force attempting to rewrite the very concept of sushi in the universe. Guided by the will of sushi itself, the protagonist races across worlds ranging from futuristic cities to sacred places. After overcoming the trials, he meets his counterparts in alternate universes, where sushi exists as a sport, a technology, or even a god — making the sushi-eating hero a heretic in each. He battles his other selves, and the identity of the mastermind who hates and denies sushi remains a mystery.
Eat Sushi or Die! Universe is a download-only action title published by Kusoi Site with a CERO All Ages rating. The PC version launched on December 10, 2023 at 600 yen (~$4 / ~¥29), while the Nintendo Switch version followed on April 4 at 1,490 yen (~$10 / ~¥71) via Registra. Famitsu’s coverage notes the game is approachable for light gamers, clearable after a few tries, singling out the tech sushi verse’s line “Time to execute the sushi function” as a standout. A third entry is in development for a late 2026 release, featuring a new protagonist but retaining the sushi-loving soul and energetic voice acting of Yu Ochi. This series remains one to watch for fans of gloriously absurd action.
