Cyberpunk 2077 Drops Windows 10 Support as CDPR Updates PC Requirements Again
CD Projekt Red has quietly updated the PC system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, with the most significant change being the termination of official support for Windows 10. The update, posted on the official support page in late May 2026, now lists Windows 11 as the minimum operating system requirement. This marks the third time the studio has raised the game’s hardware requirements since its launch, following previous updates in February 2022 that ended Windows 7 support and September 2023 that overhauled storage, memory, CPU, and VRAM thresholds.
According to an online report, CDPR’s decision means that while Microsoft’s extended security updates for Windows 10 are set to continue until October 13, 2026, all future Cyberpunk 2077 updates will no longer be tested on the older operating system. This change creates a challenging situation for some players whose PCs meet the game’s hardware specifications but cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to the operating system’s mandatory requirement for TPM 2.0 security chips and Secure Boot functionality. Many high-end PCs built between the late 2010s and early 2020s fail this compatibility check.
For players who cannot or do not wish to upgrade to Windows 11, CDPR has offered two approaches. The first option is to downgrade to an older version of the game that remains compatible with Windows 10. The second is to do nothing and hope that future versions continue to function on Windows 10, though the studio has made no guarantees and simply stated that it will no longer test updates on the platform. Similar language has also appeared in the updated minimum requirements for The Witcher 3, suggesting this policy extends across CDPR’s catalog.
Notably, CDPR has announced the end of Cyberpunk 2077 updates multiple times since 2023, only to reverse course later. This latest system requirements adjustment hints that the studio may be preparing to deliver new content for the game. While the Windows 11 mandate will exclude millions of players, the decision is not entirely surprising given that Windows 10 has not been the dominant operating system for nearly a year. It remains to be seen whether this signals a major update or expansion on the horizon for Night City.
