Ubisoft has officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Memory Reset, a comprehensive remaster of the beloved 2013 pirate adventure. The game is scheduled to launch on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. Alongside the announcement, the publisher released a fresh set of character portraits showcasing the game’s redesigned cast, including a notably refined depiction of the legendary pirate Anne Bonny. The remaster aims to bring Edward Kenway’s Caribbean saga to modern audiences with significant technical and gameplay enhancements.
Memory Reset utilizes an upgraded version of the Anvil engine to deliver a full-scale graphical remaster. According to Ubisoft, all environments, characters, and cutscenes have been completely rebuilt from the ground up. A newly introduced dynamic weather system is designed to enhance immersion and realism throughout the open-world experience. These visual improvements represent a substantial leap over the original release, bringing the 2013 title closer to modern visual standards while preserving the distinct pirate atmosphere that defined the original game.
The combat system has been described as entirely reworked from the ground up. Players will be able to dual-wield swords with Edward Kenway, while also utilizing pistols and hidden blades for smoother combo attacks. New mechanics include a perfect parry system that triggers execution moves and a four-hit combo chain for more fluid offensive sequences. The parkour system has also received additional refinements, promising more responsive traversal across ships, jungles, and colonial settlements. These changes signal a significant departure from the original game’s combat flow.
The remaster is now listed on the PC platform with pricing confirmed for the Chinese region. The standard edition is priced at ¥248 (~$34), while the deluxe edition retails for ¥298 (~$42). Full Chinese voice-over support has been confirmed, making the title more accessible to local audiences. With its July 9 release date and a strong focus on both visual fidelity and mechanical overhauls, this remaster appears to be a substantial reimagining of one of the most beloved entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
