Witcher 4 Hires Kingdom Come Lead Designer as PS5 Becomes Sony’s Most Profitable Console

Tuesday’s gaming news roundup brings several major developments, including a key hiring for The Witcher 4, new revelations about PS5’s financial performance, and fresh rumors surrounding the Resident Evil franchise. CD Projekt RED has strengthened its development team with a seasoned RPG veteran, while Sony’s current-generation console has achieved a historic financial milestone. Additionally, new reports suggest Capcom is preparing a VR-focused Resident Evil title and laying groundwork for the next mainline entry in the survival horror series.
According to reports, Zdenek Glatz, former lead writer and level designer at Warhorse Studios known for his work on the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, has joined CD Projekt RED as a senior level designer on The Witcher 4. Glatz built his reputation on deeply immersive, historically grounded storytelling in Kingdom Come, a title often described as a hardcore medieval life simulator. His experience with intricate side quest design and authentic world-building is expected to be valuable as CDPR expands its open-world level design team for the highly anticipated sequel.

Data shared by analyst Zuby_Tech reveals that PS5 has become the most profitable console generation in PlayStation history. The platform has generated cumulative operating income of $15.79 billion (~¥113.7 billion), surpassing the combined operating income of three previous generations. For comparison, PS1 generated $3 billion (~¥21.6 billion), PS2 contributed $2 billion (~¥14.4 billion), and PS4 reached $9 billion (~¥64.8 billion) in operating income. This milestone underscores the commercial success of Sony’s current-generation strategy despite ongoing supply chain challenges during its early years.

Multiple rumors have surfaced regarding Capcom’s future plans. According to leaks, the next VR-compatible Resident Evil title may be Resident Evil: Requiem, with its VR mode included in a Gold Edition expected in late 2026. This version would feature all story expansions, exclusive VR content, and classic costume packs for Leon and Chris, who is also rumored to appear in story DLC. Separately, insider Stiviwonder reports that Resident Evil 10 has entered early development and may launch as a launch title for PS6 and next-generation Xbox in 2029 or 2030, with Claire Redfield reportedly returning as the protagonist. All information remains unconfirmed by Capcom.
