Witch on the Holy Night Mobile Release Set for November 20, Priced $20
TYPE-MOON’s visual novel Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru) is coming to smartphones on November 20, 2026, as a buy-to-play app priced at 2,900 yen (tax included), roughly $20 (~¥145). The announcement was made during the theatrical animation Witch on the Holy Night stage event at FGO Fes. 2026, a real-world celebration marking the 11th anniversary of Fate/Grand Order. The story traces its roots to an unpublished novel written by Kinoko Nasu before the launches of Tsukihime and Fate/stay night, making it a foundational work in the TYPE-MOON universe that tells the beginning of one magician’s journey.
The original PC version of Witch on the Holy Night launched in 2012. In 2022, a console edition featuring full voice acting and full HD visuals was released for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The smartphone version is described by publisher Aniplex as an optimized adaptation of that console release, preserving the full voice cast and dramatic production values while tailoring the experience for touch controls. Players will be able to enjoy the orthodox visual novel with a simple tap of a finger, with store page details to be shared at a later date.

Beyond the mobile launch, an anime film adaptation produced by ufotable is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, with distribution handled by Toho and Aniplex. A three-volume novel edition will also be published in consecutive months across August, September, and October 2026. The first volume contains a substantial 416 pages of text, with all illustrations rendered in full color, including some newly drawn artwork. The multi-platform rollout means the story will reach audiences through games, film, and print within the same year.

The smartphone version is a port of the console edition, which supports Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Production is led by TYPE-MOON, with distribution by Aniplex, and the title carries a CERO C rating (ages 15 and up). The scenario is directed by Kinoko Nasu, with character design by Hirokazu Koyama and a voice cast including Haruka Tomatsu, Yusuke Kobayashi, and Kana Hanazawa; the ending theme is performed by supercell. Given the story’s importance to the TYPE-MOON mythos and the convenience of a buy-to-play mobile format, this is an easy recommendation for fans of narrative-driven games.
