Skull and Bones Gets Permanent Price Drop to $15 (~¥109)

Ubisoft’s pirate title Skull and Bones has received a permanent price reduction, now available for ¥109 (~$15). Originally referred to as Ubisoft’s first “4A” production, the game was developed by Ubisoft Singapore and began as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. After multiple reboots, it launched as a standalone title in 2024. Set in the Indian Ocean, players take on the role of a pirate captain commanding a fleet, with support for up to 20-player multiplayer including PVP and PVE content.
The game started as downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag before evolving through multiple iterations into its own title. Its standard edition was priced at ¥128 (~$18) at launch. The historic lowest price reached ¥12.8 (~$1.80), while the new permanent price is set at ¥109 (~$15). Future sales could potentially bring it down as low as ¥10.9 (~$1.50).

Reports indicate the development cost reached an estimated $850 million. However, PC platform concurrent player counts are reportedly just over one hundred, with an approval rating of approximately 66 percent. These pricing adjustments reflect the game’s trajectory from a highly anticipated project to one that has struggled to find a substantial audience.
At ¥109 (~$15), Skull and Bones is now significantly more affordable than its launch price. Whether it delivers enough value depends on interest in naval combat and pirate exploration. From an editorial standpoint, the game’s troubled production and middling reception are well documented, but the reduced price makes it a more reasonable option for those curious about the high-seas experience.
