Resident Evil Film Unveils Bizarre Yume Group Collab Trailer
Sony Pictures has unveiled a collaboration video pairing its upcoming Resident Evil film with the Japanese mail-order company Yume Group. The movie is directed by Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian (2022) and the hit WEAPONS/Weapons (2025). Set to open in Japanese theaters on October 9, 2026, the survival horror film follows protagonist Brian, an ordinary medical supply delivery worker who is dragged into a nightmare after accepting a job in Raccoon City. The promotional clip arrives as the franchise’s latest live-action adaptation prepares for its theatrical release.
According to the source, Zach Cregger directs the project, with the screenplay written by Cregger and Shay Hatten. The film reimagines the iconic survival horror game series, which has surpassed 200 million copies sold worldwide, as a completely new work. It runs 90 minutes and unfolds in real time from the protagonist’s perspective, following Brian, a man with no special combat skills who can only flee as terror closes in. Ahead of its Japanese debut, the movie opened in the United States on September 18, 2026, where it claimed the No. 1 opening weekend box office spot.

The collaboration video features Yume Group president Shigehiro Ishida and singer Yuri Hoshina, who present the film in their familiar TV-shopping style. The pair highlight the “90 minutes of nonstop thrills” and note the film is a completely new work accessible even to newcomers. Back in February, Yume Group released a similar video with the game Resident Evil Requiem, offering a limited “Terror Nightmare Set” that bundled the game with a hanging health device and sold out immediately. This time, the two promote the movie’s advance online tickets, priced at ¥1,700 (~$11).

The advance online tickets include a Mubichike digital card as a purchase and viewing bonus, and buyers may purchase any number of tickets. The confirmed cast includes Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser, with producers Robert Kulzer, Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Victor Hadida, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. A Japanese dub cast features voice actors such as Hiro Shimono. As an editorial note, pairing a grim survival horror film with a cheerful home-shopping pitch is an unusual but memorably odd marketing choice.
