Pokemon Legend Research Puzzle Event Launches in Tokyo on September 9
The Pokemon Company has announced a new real-world puzzle event titled “Legend Research in Nihonbashi & Yaesu,” set to run across the two Tokyo districts starting September 9, 2026. The experience invites participants to walk through the streets while tackling puzzles tied to legendary Pokemon. A total of 19 Pokemon, including legendary species, will appear as statues, while more than 100 Pokemon will be scattered throughout the area. The city itself becomes the stage for this outdoor adventure, with displays positioned at various locations for participants and casual visitors alike.
The puzzle content for the event was created by RIDDLER, the team led by Ryo Matsumaru, a well-known Pokemon fan. The story begins when participants stumble upon an old, worn Pokedex and a mysterious file, setting off a quest to solve riddles using the statues and exhibits as clues. Notably, spotting the Pokemon placed around the streets is completely free, so even visitors simply strolling through the area can enjoy the event without making any purchase. The mix of urban exploration and puzzle-solving gives the event a distinctive treasure-hunt feel.
The paid puzzle-solving kit will be sold for 3,300 yen (~$22 / ~¥160) including tax. Main venues include Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower, COREDO Muromachi 1, 2, and 3, COREDO Muromachi Terrace, and Tokyo Midtown Yaesu, with further details being introduced by the organizers. The pricing positions the kit as an accessible add-on for visitors who want the full mystery experience, while the free Pokemon sightings ensure the event remains open to everyone exploring the two districts.
Tokyo Midtown Yaesu’s fifth floor will host an event merchandise shop featuring original goods based on newly drawn key visuals. The lineup includes T-shirts, drawstring pouches, folding fans, hats, stickers, and acrylic keychains, alongside standard items. These products can be purchased without a puzzle kit exchange ticket, making them accessible to all visitors regardless of participation. With free Pokemon displays and collectible goods on offer, this looks like a must-see stop for Pokemon fans visiting Tokyo this September, though overseas players will need to plan a trip to Japan to join the hunt.
