Naughty Dog Confirms Two New The Last of Us Projects in Development
Naughty Dog has confirmed that two new projects set within The Last of Us series are currently in development. The studio shared the news through a message from studio head Neil Druckmann, released to mark the conclusion of 2026’s “The Last of Us Day.” According to the message, both projects remain in early stages, so specific details cannot yet be shared. The Last of Us is a survival action franchise set in an America ravaged by a parasitic fungal infection, and it has become one of the studio’s most recognized properties.
Druckmann’s message stated that both new projects will expand the world of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II. Because the titles are still in the early stages of production, the studio declined to reveal details such as platforms, release windows, or story focus. The announcement offered no further specifics about how the two projects relate to each other or what form they will take, but it confirmed that the franchise’s direction continues beyond its existing narrative. For now, the studio is keeping concrete information under wraps.

The Last of Us series follows a survival story across an infected United States. Part I depicts the meeting and journey of Joel, a smuggler, and a young girl named Ellie. Part II, set five years later, advances the narrative through two perspectives: Ellie and a new main character, Abby. Remastered versions of both titles are available on PlayStation 5 and PC. Both are currently discounted across digital storefronts, with the PlayStation sale running until October 7 and the PC platform sale until October 2.

The message also referenced the new title announced in 2024. That project is a sci-fi adventure set thousands of years in the future, in which players take on the role of a bounty hunter attempting to escape a dangerous planet. Development began in 2020, and the studio says the full picture will be revealed in 2027. Naughty Dog added that it intends to spend the remainder of 2026 quietly. With two Last of Us projects and a new sci-fi IP in the works, the studio clearly has a busy road ahead — though fans will have to wait for specifics.
