Made in Abyss New Film Cast and Theme Song Revealed for October
The first installment of the Made in Abyss theatrical film series, Made in Abyss: The Awakening Mystery, is set to premiere in Japan on October 23, 2026. Alongside the debut of a new trailer, the production has revealed additional cast members and its theme song. The trailer showcases Riko, Reg, Nanachi, and Faputa as they advance toward the Seventh Layer of the Abyss, alongside first looks at new characters Tepaste and Klavari. The franchise, based on Akihito Tsukushi’s original manga, has surpassed 22 million cumulative copies in print.
Sumire Morohoshi voices Tepaste, while Takanori Hoshino voices Klavari. According to the official character information, Tepaste was traveling with the senior cave raider Klavari before becoming separated, and later encounters the expedition team known as the Curse Fleet. Klavari is a Black Whistle cave raider who excels at solo expeditions and frequently uses the unique greeting “Dehaode” (デャホーデ) in various situations.
“Chain of the Abyss” is performed by Kevin Penkin featuring Mori Calliope, with lyrics by both artists and composition and arrangement by Penkin. Penkin, born in Perth, Australia in 1992, is a BAFTA-nominated composer for Japanese animation and video games. After moving to London in 2013, he collaborated with legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu while studying at the Royal College of Music, and his works have been recorded by orchestras in Prague, Vienna, Boston, Nashville, and Australia. Mori Calliope, a virtual artist popular in Japan and worldwide, made her major label debut under Universal Music in 2022. Her latest album charted on US Billboard rankings including Artist 100 and World Album, and her first overseas solo live at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles sold out in February 2025.
The film is directed by Masayuki Kojima, with Hideyuki Kurata on script and Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise (Production I.G) handling character design. Returning voice cast includes Miyu Tomita as Riko, Mariya Ise as Reg, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno as Faputa. From August 7 to 20, advance tickets bundled with Maruruk and Prushka plushies will be sold at select theaters across Japan, including venues in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, and Fukuoka, while supplies last, with the plushies possibly sold separately at a later date. With its signature mix of beauty and cruelty, this latest theatrical entry looks like another must-watch for fans of the series.
