Indian Soulslike Avatar Release Gets New Gameplay Trailer and Details

Indian independent developer Aeos Games has released a new gameplay demonstration for its upcoming action RPG, Avatar Release (释放阿凡达), offering the first extended look at this Indian epic-inspired soulslike title. The game is set in a fictional parallel-world version of India, drawing heavily from Indian mythology and cultural aesthetics. The newly released footage showcases combat mechanics, environments, and enemy designs that combine familiar soulslike gameplay with distinctly Indian thematic elements. Aeos Games describes the project as their first major title, built from the ground up with proprietary technology.
Avatar Release places players in the role of Vikram, a protagonist voiced by veteran actor Johnny Yong Bosch, known for voicing Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach and Nero from the Devil May Cry series. The story unfolds in Vishwapur, a fictional coastal city that has fallen under siege by Nisthari Rakshas, demonic beings from Naraka (the Hindu concept of hell). Players must uncover the truth behind the city’s corruption by darkness while battling supernatural threats that draw from Indian mythological traditions.

Beyond the standard soulslike mechanics of dodging and blocking, Avatar Release introduces several distinctive combat options. Players can wield a ranged throwing weapon called the Chakra, inspired by the iconic discus weapon associated with Hindu mythology. A transformation ability known as the Feather Crystal Form allows players to temporarily alter their combat capabilities for strategic advantage. Aeos Games has emphasized that the game features a custom-built physics engine and a tailored enemy AI system, developed from first principles rather than using existing middleware.

The newly released screenshots and gameplay footage demonstrate a distinctive visual style that blends Indian architectural motifs with dark fantasy aesthetics, a combination rarely seen in the soulslike genre. The game represents an ambitious undertaking from a small independent studio. While no release date or platform information has been announced yet, the quality of the gameplay footage and the involvement of a prominent voice actor suggest Aeos Games is aiming for a significant presence in the action RPG space. This is a title worth keeping an eye on for fans of the genre looking for fresh cultural inspiration.
