Glow-Only Adventure ‘A Machine That Can Only Shine’ Hits PC August 28
Waku Waku Games has announced that the adventure title A Machine That Can Only Shine (光るだけしかない機械) will launch on PC (Windows and Mac) on August 28, 2026. The game is the latest work from creator Monthly Wetland (月刊湿地帯), known for titles including Enjoy the Family Restaurant (ファミレスを享受せよ). The game was previously released on an independent distribution service, and is now coming to a wider PC audience at a price of 350 yen (~$2.40 / ~¥17). A Nintendo Switch version is also in the works.
The core hook of the game is that the player controls a machine whose only ability is to emit light. Players take on the role of this machine after it is discovered by a mysterious visitor, and communication happens exclusively through glowing. There are no text-advance prompts or menu choices anywhere in the game; the visitor’s spoken words are transcribed in real time, and the player responds solely by toggling their light on and off. It is up to the visitor to interpret those responses, and the story unfolds through that exchange. A single playthrough lasts roughly 60 minutes.

Compared to the original version available on the independent distribution service, the new PC release adds several upgrades. Game controller support has been implemented, and English and Chinese localization have been added for international players. Additional options include volume adjustment and screen size configuration, and a sound gallery becomes available after clearing the game. These additions make the title more accessible while preserving its minimal, light-only design.

The PC version will be released on Friday, August 28, 2026, priced at 350 yen (~$2.40 / ~¥17). The publisher is Waku Waku Games LLC, based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and led by CEO Ryuji Oyanagi. A Nintendo Switch version is also planned alongside the PC launch. For players seeking something genuinely unconventional, a game built entirely around a single light toggle is an intriguing experiment worth keeping an eye on.
