FF7 Revelations Lets Players Mix Combat Loadouts with Any Appearance

The upcoming Final Fantasy VII: Revelations will feature a character customization system that separates combat performance from visual appearance, allowing players to freely combine any equipment stats with their preferred outfits. Creative director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the details in an interview with GamesPark, addressing a long-standing concern among role-playing game fans who dislike sacrificing style for optimized stats. The system introduces a skin mechanic that overrides the visual display of equipped gear, enabling characters to maintain any chosen look regardless of their actual loadout.
According to Hamaguchi, the team identified a common tension between combat efficiency and visual enjoyment in RPGs. Some players feel forced into unattractive gear combinations for optimal performance. The skin system resolves this by allowing appearance to take priority over actual equipment display. A character configured as a warrior class can still appear in standard Shinra soldier attire, exploration-found outfits, or even costumes from previous entries in the series. These cosmetic options will be available from the very start of the game.

A particularly notable detail confirmed during the interview involves Tifa’s iconic swimsuit outfit being included among the initial available costumes. When asked directly whether players could begin the game with Tifa wearing the swimsuit while using any combat build, Hamaguchi confirmed this is exactly the case. We are well aware of how much players value classic character looks, he stated, adding that the team aimed to offer maximum freedom of choice. The confirmation has generated significant attention among the fan community.

With this system, Final Fantasy VII: Revelations grants players complete flexibility to pursue optimal combat configurations while keeping their favorite character aesthetics intact. Whether equipped for endgame challenges or simply exploring the world, characters can appear however the player desires from beachwear to full battle armor. This approach to player choice is a welcome development for those who value both form and function in their gaming experience. Fans of the series will appreciate having one less compromise to make when the game launches.
