Capcom Cut Full Ghost Chapter from Resident Evil 9; Sony Clarifies DRM Policy

A fresh round of gaming news has emerged from multiple major publishers, covering a wide range of upcoming titles and policy updates. Capcom has officially confirmed that a complete “Ghost Chapter” was removed from Resident Evil 9: Requiem during development, while Sony has broken its silence to clarify its recently debated digital rights management policy. Additionally, new gameplay details for the Gothic remake have been shared, and Ubisoft revealed a customizable HUD system for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remaster.
Capcom has officially confirmed for the first time that a complete “Ghost Chapter” was removed from Resident Evil 9: Requiem during development. Game director Nakanishi Koji revealed this detail in an interview with Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer, emphasizing that the decision was not a last-minute change but part of an ongoing refinement process from the project’s early stages. The team continuously evaluated narrative pacing and content effectiveness, moving segments around, replacing material, and deleting parts that slowed the experience. Nakanishi compared the process to video editing, noting that removing excess content often results in a stronger final product.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has responded to growing discussion around PlayStation’s digital rights management system. Speaking to GameSpot, a Sony representative clarified that the new verification process is not a mandatory periodic login requirement. Instead, users will perform a one-time online license confirmation after purchasing a game. Following that single step, no further validation is needed, and purchased games will continue to function normally in offline mode. This clarification aims to address misunderstandings that emerged after players noticed the new system and raised concerns about always-online requirements for disc and digital purchases alike.

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have revealed new details about the Gothic remake, including a crime system where killing NPCs has lasting consequences. Witnesses spread word across factions, and players must work to restore their reputation. Separately, actor and producer Rob McElhenney confirmed he will star in a live-action Far Cry series, with filming beginning this fall. He described the show as an “exhausting, brutal yet beautiful love story,” positioning it as a love letter to the game series while remaining accessible to newcomers. Showrunner Noah Hawley is attached as executive producer. These updates, along with recent Assassin’s Creed 4 remaster HUD details, suggest an active period across multiple franchises heading into the second half of 2026.
