Snack World Reloaded TGS2026 Hands-On: Upgraded Diorama Visuals
Level-5 has unveiled Snack World Reloaded (スナックワールド リローデッド), a remake of its 2017 action RPG Snack World. The title is playable at the Level-5 booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21, with the first two days reserved for business visitors. The original game expanded beyond gaming into anime and manga, and its NFC feature that let players scan physical Jara toys was a notable part of the experience. In the demo, attendees take control of Chap, the protagonist of the anime adaptation, in a mode called Treasure Board.
The Treasure Board mode tasks players with navigating a map that offers multiple routes, with the goal of defeating a boss before a time limit expires. The route chosen affects which enemies appear and which weapons and Jara can be obtained, so player decisions change both the difficulty and the overall experience. The most immediately visible upgrade is the graphics. The cute, pop-art style of the original remains intact, but the visuals now carry more depth and finer detail, giving the impression of moving characters around inside a diorama. Defeating a mid-boss opens the path to the next area.
Combat keeps a clear, simple foundation: players attack, dodge, and guard. The defining feature is switching between weapons known as Jara, and every offensive option is tied to them. Beyond standard attacks, each Jara has its own Jara Skill, while Jara Break unleashes a powerful move once a battle gauge fills. Weapons include swords, axes, bows, and staves, each with distinct attack styles. Because individual Jara carry attributes that are more effective against certain enemies, choosing the right tool matters. Players can swap Jara at any time, and a one-button option automatically equips the Jara best suited to the enemy in front of them.
Defeating regular enemies during a run quickly raises the player’s level, complete with satisfying sound and visual effects that encourage fighting — though the time limit keeps that in check, making it a tactical question of how much to level up when chasing a fastest clear time. The demo ends with two bosses: Medusa and Dullahan. Medusa can petrify players with her Ishininaru Flash attack, while Dullahan strikes with sharp slashes from his Nightmare Sword. Snack World Reloaded is scheduled to launch in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC. For veterans of the original and newcomers alike, this faithful-yet-sharper remake looks worth keeping on the radar.
