Resident Evil Requiem Gets Leon Must Die Forever Mode in New Free Update

Capcom has released a substantial free update for Resident Evil: Requiem on May 8, 2026, introducing a brand-new附加 mode titled Leon Must Die Forever (Li Ao Jue Ming Wei Ji). The mode shifts away from the main campaign’s survival horror formula, delivering a high-intensity action combat experience instead. A new official gameplay trailer was released alongside the update, showcasing the mode in action. Unlike the base game, this mode is not available from the start — players must first complete the main storyline on normal difficulty to unlock it, making it a dedicated challenge for those who have already experienced the core campaign.
The mode centers around Leon S. Kennedy and draws structural inspiration from the classic Mercenaries mode, but with significant upgrades across the board. It strips away the main game’s puzzle-solving and horror elements to focus purely on fast-paced combat. Players will revisit familiar locations from the main campaign under strict time limits, battling through 20 randomly generated stages. Each stage features intense enemy waves and unique mini-bosses, with the ultimate goal of confronting the final boss, Victor. The pacing is tight and unforgiving, with very little room for error.

A standout feature of Leon Must Die Forever is the enhancement serum system, which grants Leon powerful combat abilities. Players fill an enhancement gauge by defeating enemies, gradually unlocking and upgrading skills such as damage amplification, health recovery on melee hits, movement speed boosts, and perfect parry healing. These abilities can be combined to create personalized playstyles. The mode offers five difficulty levels, ranging from accessible to brutally punishing. The hardest tier, called Limit Challenge, activates permadeath with drastically increased enemy damage and health, designed only for the most skilled players.

The free update also includes multiple bug fixes addressing progression blockers, crashes, and performance issues. PC players now benefit from DualSense wireless controller support, featuring adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion controls. Enemy AI logic and weapon handling have also been refined, alongside adjustments to item spawn rates in certain stages. With its randomized stage order, enemy placements, and ability unlock sequences paired with a time-based ranking system, Leon Must Die Forever offers strong replay value for those seeking a combat-focused challenge. This mode is a welcome addition for fans who have mastered the main campaign and crave a faster, more aggressive take on Resident Evil’s action potential.
