Portopia Serial Murder Remake Sequel Impresses in TGS 2026 Demo
A playable demo of the newly announced adventure title Zoku Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken: Boukyaku no Maisou (Sequel Portopia Serial Murder Case: Burial of Oblivion) is being showcased at the G-Mode booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026, held from September 17 to 20 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Described as a full remake of the classic Portopia adventure with five freshly added investigation files, the game is scheduled for a 2027 release. According to a hands-on preview, the demo ran on PC, meaning the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch versions could differ slightly in their final form.
The preview described the demo as light and responsive. Opening windows and selecting choices produced quick reactions, and command selection never felt sluggish. Message display speed can also be adjusted, allowing a brisk pace. Graphics and BGM were praised as high quality, with the original game’s near-silence replaced by newly orchestrated music and a more three-dimensional sound design. A short opening cinematic was added, presenting the case overview in a sound-novel style. The system and story remain faithful, the preview said, while the overall quality is elevated to modern adventure game standards.

Character design is handled by Yasushi Asano, a director at anime studio WIT STUDIO known for his work on Attack on Titan. The music is composed by Shinya Kiyozuka, a leading concert pianist. The preview noted that when it asked staff on site, a team member who knew Asano had reached out with the request. Asano is said to be a keen game fan who brings genuine enthusiasm and understanding to the project. The article framed this outside-industry recruitment as producing strong results for this particular title.

The original Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken was largely created by Yuji Horii, best known as the creator of Dragon Quest. Released for PC in 1983 and on the Famicom in 1985 with development by Chunsoft, its story follows a detective and his young partner investigating a murder in Kobe that escalates into serial killings. Its command-selection system replaced typing commands letter by letter, making the genre far more approachable and influencing later adventure games. The preview noted that Paranormasight director Takaya Ishiyama once cited Portopia as his adventure game origin. Pricing remains undecided. For fans of the genre, this remake appears to be a welcome revival, and the 2027 release is one to watch.
