Pokémon Game Reveals Multiplayer Features for Nintendo Switch 2 Release
The upcoming Pokémon game, scheduled for release on March 5, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, has detailed its comprehensive multiplayer systems. According to the latest information, the game features two distinct multiplayer modes that offer different experiences for players. One mode operates within the story towns, while the other takes place on dedicated islands separate from the main narrative. These systems allow for both cooperative play and town showcasing, with specific restrictions and capabilities for hosts and guests.
In the story town multiplayer mode, players can visit each other’s towns through internet or local communication. This requires setting a password that others must enter to access the town. A special “viewing mode” automatically activates in most towns, preventing visitors from using moves or items while allowing them to admire the town’s construction. This mode is designed primarily for showcasing architectural achievements without interference from guests.

The “Blank Town” is an island connected to the story towns, accessible via a long road from the “パサパサこうや” town. Here, players can freely build towns without story constraints and invite guests for cooperative construction. Hosts can take items found here back to their main towns, while guests cannot. Additionally, hosts can bring certain Pokémon encountered in Blank Town to other towns. The separate “Cloud Island” allows up to four players simultaneously and enables asynchronous play where others can join even when the owner is offline.

Cloud Island features include password settings for privacy, with options to allow anyone with the address to join or restrict access to password holders only. Players can input 9-digit codes to generate specific island terrains. A special “Mysterious Goggles” item, purchasable from Pokémon Center computers, allows virtual tours of other players’ Cloud Islands without actual entry. This viewing-only mode doesn’t allow interaction with the island, making it ideal for streamers or those wanting to showcase their creations without disruption. The multiplayer systems appear thoughtfully designed to accommodate various playstyles and privacy preferences.
