Paris GTA 6 Billboard Removes Firearms, Sparking Fan Debate

Grand Theft Auto 6 is only weeks away from its November 19 launch on console platforms, and Rockstar Games has rolled out a worldwide offline marketing push featuring giant murals and building-side posters. Among them, a large billboard on the Le Mercure building in Paris has drawn attention across player communities — not for its scale, but for a detail that differs from the original artwork. Careful fans comparing the poster with the game’s official cover art noticed that two firearms had been removed from the image.
The Paris poster reproduces the game’s original cover artwork, but two weapons are missing. In one spot, protagonist Lucia’s hand — and the pistol it held — has been erased entirely. In another, an assault rifle has been stripped from the composition, leaving only a character’s raised arm. Equivalent outdoor murals in cities such as New York reportedly retain the firearms exactly as they appear in the source art.

The edits were not initiated by Rockstar as an adjustment to the game itself. According to the report, the building’s management was unwilling to display large firearm imagery on its exterior wall, so the property accepted the advertising fee while asking for a partial modification of the poster’s visuals. Some players have speculated the decision may also relate to local outdoor advertising regulations, though the report attributes the change primarily to the building operator.

The situation struck many players as contradictory: the venue agreed to host an advertisement for a game built around firearms, yet asked for the weapons to be removed from the artwork. The detail spread quickly across overseas forums, becoming a talking point in the run-up to launch. It is, at most, a minor promotional footnote — the game itself is unaffected, and the Paris wall now stands as one of the more curious marketing artifacts of this release cycle.
