Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DX Hits Switch 2 in February 2027
Nintendo has announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DX for Nintendo Switch 2 during its Nintendo Direct broadcast on September 9, 2026. The enhanced version of the 2020 action title launches on February 25, 2027. Pre-orders for the digital version have already opened, with physical pre-orders beginning in stages. The original Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity arrived on the original Switch on November 20, 2020, depicting the Great Calamity that took place 100 years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The DX edition rebuilds that experience using the power of the newer hardware.
According to the announcement, the DX version uses Nintendo Switch 2 hardware to substantially increase the number of enemies shown on screen while improving both framerate and resolution. It supports a 60fps refresh rate, making the battlefields render more smoothly. These upgrades aim to amplify the series’ signature thrill of cutting down overwhelming armies. The release also includes the complete Expansion Pass from the original game, bundling both Wave 1, Pulse of the Ancients, and Wave 2, Guardian of Remembrance. The result is a single package containing the full Age of Calamity storyline and its downloadable content.

A major new addition is Calamity Mode, a challenge aimed at veteran players. It pits users against powerful, high-difficulty enemies in far greater numbers while restricting recovery items and time-stop abilities. The mode uses its own separate save data, so progress is not shared with the standard campaign, and its difficulty is fixed and cannot be changed mid-playthrough. The game also supports Nintendo Switch 2’s game-sharing communication, enabling two-player co-op both with people nearby via local wireless and with players in a game chat over the internet. Save data from the original Switch release can be carried over, and a second save slot has been added.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DX launches on February 25, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, priced at ¥8,980 (~$60) and rated CERO B. Players who already own the original Switch version, whether as a physical or digital copy, can purchase the download edition at 50 percent off, or ¥4,490 (~$30). Save-data linkage bonuses are also included: playing the DX version on a system holding save data for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Breath of the Wild, or its Switch 2 Edition grants special in-game equipment, including the Ancient Sword and the Soldier’s Wooden Sword. For players who never finished the original, this release looks positioned as a complete package.
