GTA 6’s Lucia Sparks Debate Over Realistic vs. Idealized Looks

A comparison image featuring Lucia, the female protagonist of Grand Theft Auto 6, has stirred up debate in an overseas player community after a user posted it with the question of whether Lucia is “too ugly.” The post places a fan-edited version of the character directly above Rockstar Games’ official model, using the same pose in both frames. The thread quickly drew attention from players who disagreed about how the character should look, and the discussion has continued to spread across the community since it was first shared.
The upper half of the comparison shows a heavily modified Lucia with refined makeup and sharper, more defined facial features, styled to match an East Asian influencer aesthetic. The lower half displays the original in-game model, which has a rounder facial contour and proportions that lean closer to a realistic, everyday appearance rather than a deliberately flawless one. Aside from the face, the framing, lighting, and character pose in both images are essentially identical.

According to the report, the poster was clearly unhappy with Rockstar’s design for Lucia and felt the character did not match the leading-lady image some players had in mind. Some commenters agreed, describing her appearance as ordinary and the model as lacking appeal. Many others defended the design, arguing that Lucia is not unattractive, that she has her own charm, and that a grounded look suits the game’s style better. One reply asked the poster bluntly whether they only play games that cater to personal fantasy.

Other players pointed out that the comparison itself was flawed: the edited version was visibly beautified and may have involved face-swapping or AI generation, meaning the two images were never held to the same standard. As the debate continued, some argued that character design should serve the story and the game’s world rather than simply meeting aesthetic expectations. Our take: it is worth remembering that a model built for a crime drama is not meant to look like a social media portrait.
