Former Take-Two AI Lead Says Players Will Eventually Love AI-Generated Games

Despite Grand Theft Auto VI not utilizing generative AI in its development, former Take-Two AI department head Luke Dicken remains bullish on the technology’s future in gaming. Dicken, who previously led the company’s AI division before its dissolution, believes that while the current hype cycle around AI may be overwhelming and could even scare away talented developers, players will ultimately come to embrace and appreciate AI-generated content in games. He described the potential of AI to elevate gaming experiences to a “quantum level” of quality.
Dicken acknowledged that the current level of AI-related noise in the industry is excessive, noting that overhype risks driving away top-tier talent who may be put off by the frenzy. His comments arrive at a time when many developers and publishers are still debating the role of generative AI in game production. While some studios are actively integrating AI tools into development pipelines, others remain cautious about both the creative and ethical implications of the technology.

Notably, the very AI department Dicken once led was disbanded by Take-Two in April of this year. The company’s CEO has also publicly confirmed that generative AI was not used in the development of Grand Theft Auto VI, the highly anticipated open-world title from Rockstar Games. This move suggests that despite Dicken’s optimism, Take-Two’s corporate leadership may be taking a more measured approach toward AI adoption in its major franchises for the time being.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While AI may not have played a role in this title’s creation, Dicken’s prediction that players will eventually warm to AI-driven content is an interesting one to watch as the technology continues to evolve across the industry.
