September 2026 is shaping up to be an unusually busy month for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners. New releases headlined by the Switch 2 edition of Dragon Quest XI S, an all-new Fire Emblem entry, and Capcom’s return to its Onimusha franchise after roughly two decades are spread across the calendar, with the month’s full lineup recently detailed in a roundup covering adventures, remakes, RPGs, and multiplayer games alike. Most of the biggest titles — including Fire Emblem 万紫千紅 (Banshi Senkō) and Onimusha: Way of the Sword — land on Switch 2 as exclusives or freshly optimized editions.
Fire Emblem 万紫千紅 is a brand-new simulation RPG launching September 17 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Players step into the role of a savior who travels back in time to avert annihilation after the demon god Balor’s resurrection, guiding four warriors with different beliefs: Kai, a boy fighting to save his father; Dietrich, a swordsman seeking duels with the strong; Queen Theodora, who carries her homeland’s ambitions; and Leda, a bard living for revenge. Set in the Dagza Empire, prosperous for 1,500 years under divine rule, the story builds around its capital’s great gladiatorial festival. Battles reward careful terrain use and unit management across troop types such as fighters, sky-winged soldiers, war-elephant soldiers, and dragoons. Published by Nintendo, it costs 9,980 yen (~$69 / ~¥500) packaged or 8,980 yen (~$62 / ~¥450) digitally.
Capcom’s sword-action series gets its first new entry in roughly 20 years with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, out September 4 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The story unfolds in early Edo-era Kyoto, where miasma has twisted temples such as Kiyomizu-dera into eerie forms and Genma demons roam the streets. Players control Miyamoto Musashi, a fiery martial artist who came to Kyoto to master the sword, using the Oni Gauntlet to absorb demon souls and gain power, with blade-clash standoffs adding a dueling layer to combat. Notably, Musashi’s face model is Japan’s legendary samurai film star Toshiro Mifune. The title carries a CERO Z (18+) rating and an 8,990 yen (~$62 / ~¥450) price tag.
Dragon Quest XI S arrives on Switch 2 September 24 at 5,478 yen (~$38 / ~¥275), letting players choose between a 1440p/30fps quality mode and a 1080p/60fps performance mode. The same week brings Falcom’s full remake The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 2nd on September 17, while Sega’s Sonic Frontiers Super Deluxe reaches Switch 2 the same day bundling free major updates and a digital art book. Minecraft Dungeons II follows September 29 with up to four-player co-op, and the horse-breeding simulator Derby Stallion 2 races onto Switch 2 on September 24. Between flagship franchises returning and major remakes arriving, September 2026 is shaping up as one of the strongest months yet for Switch 2 owners.
