Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Confirms Cid and Vincent as Playable Characters
Square Enix has confirmed that Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine will be fully playable characters in the upcoming third and final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The revelation comes from co-director Naoki Hamaguchi, who shared key details in an interview with German outlet ntower. Hamaguchi is currently leading development on the still-untitled third entry. With the first two parts scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S in the first half of 2026, the development team has been increasingly sharing updates on the trilogy’s concluding chapter.
Hamaguchi confirmed that Cid and Vincent, the last two core party members from the original FF7 who had not yet been fully unlocked as playable characters in the remake series, will have complete playability in Part 3. “Cid and Vincent have incredibly appealing combat abilities,” Hamaguchi stated. “I can’t wait for players to experience them firsthand.” This confirmation fills the remaining gap in the remake’s playable character lineup, bringing the full original party roster into action.
Regarding downloadable content, Hamaguchi revealed that the team had seriously planned story DLC for Rebirth but ultimately abandoned the idea to prioritize Part 3’s development quality and timeline. However, he did not rule out future DLC entirely, stating the team would explore possibilities for Part 3 if fan support continues strongly. On the topic of the iconic summon Knights of the Round, Hamaguchi did not confirm its return but listed it alongside Sephiroth’s Supernova as among FF7’s most iconic elements, expressing excitement about recreating classic moments with modern technology.
Development on the trilogy’s finale is progressing steadily, with the complete character roster, refined battle system, and potential return of classic elements generating significant anticipation among fans.
