FFVII Revelation Launches April 2027, Director Details New Systems
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation (FFVII リベレーション) will launch on April 8, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The title serves as the final chapter of the FFVII Remake trilogy. Ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2026, which opens September 17, Square Enix held a media hands-on session in August, and director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the project in a new interview. A large playable demo is planned for the Square Enix booth, with advance lottery reservations being introduced because demo tickets have sold out quickly in previous years.
Hamaguchi stated the game is already largely at product-level quality, with the full experience connected since its June reveal and polish work continuing. The previous game’s communication tower activation has been removed. Instead, entering a new area displays several Reports, and following them lets information accumulate naturally along the route. Summon shrines have also changed: whereas the previous entry offered three locations (α, β, and γ) per summon, Revelation uses a single shrine per summon. Players can destroy special stones nearby to weaken the summon before battle, and defeating it grants summon materia. Hamaguchi advised players who struggle to explore and weaken the summon fully first.

Mounted chocobo combat was introduced primarily to maintain freshness rather than by popular demand. Chocobos gain experience in various ways, including sniffing out buried items and vegetables as before, plus grown stray chocobos that trigger a negotiation-style interaction; befriended chocobos gather at the Highwind stables. Players now raise Pico, and there is no breeding system like the original, though chocobo Reports unlock battle abilities. Chadley has moved into a main-story role analyzing Meteor at the Highwind, with MAI becoming the world exploration guide. Reports now carry story elements, and rewards are separated—Queen’s Blood yields cards while battle quests yield materia.

Revelation introduces branching decisions that shift story perspectives and can alter story content and even explored areas; only one option can be chosen per playthrough, though quests can be reset after clearing the main story. Vincent and Cid join as playable characters, with button timing and long presses changing their actions—Vincent switches between ranged gunfire and melee as Galian Beast, while Cid uses aerial moves and spear throws. Four vest types were decided early: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and a summon-focused role. A fast-forward feature ships at launch, with broader boost features arriving later. Hamaguchi also said the Revelation reveal boosted sales of Remake and Rebirth. This final chapter is certainly one for series fans to watch.
