Dynasty Warriors 2 Remastered Shows Hulao Gate Demo, Online 2P Update
Koei Tecmo Games hosted a special stage presentation for Dynasty Warriors 2 with Xtreme Legends Remastered during Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The September 19 broadcast, billed as the “Battle of Hulao Gate” stage, featured live gameplay of the demo playable at the TGS venue. Producer Tomohiko Sho provided commentary, while director Iyama took the controller. According to the presentation, the demo’s Battle of Hulao Gate has been adjusted for trial purposes, including its starting position, meaning it differs from the final retail version.
During the stage, it was explained that the playable Hulao Gate scenario culminates with the appearance of Lu Bu if the player performs well, making his defeat the goal of the demo. Iyama advanced through the stage smoothly, reaching Lu Bu faster than producer Sho had anticipated. Sho then proposed a self-imposed challenge, suggesting that the encounter with Lu Bu be attempted using the game’s classic settings. This setup framed the remainder of the demonstration around a direct duel against the famous warrior.
The remaster introduces new features that can be individually turned on or off, allowing players to tailor the experience. By switching to classic settings, players can recreate a feel closer to the original release. Specific examples given during the stream included disabling the lock-on function alone, or adjusting the camera controls to behave more like the original version. For the Lu Bu battle, Sho and Iyama changed every available setting to classic mode, presenting a configuration intended to evoke the original game’s handling.
Despite the tougher configuration, Iyama performed well and reduced Lu Bu’s health to nearly nothing. However, Lu Bu seized a momentary opening and cut in, defeating Iyama and ending the challenge in failure. Koei Tecmo then revealed new information: a post-launch update will add online two-player support. The stage concluded with messages from Sho and Iyama to fans awaiting release. For longtime followers of the series, the confirmation of post-launch online co-op is a welcome addition worth keeping an eye on.
