Chinese developer Shanghai Zhulong Studio has released new gameplay footage and a fresh batch of screenshots for its upcoming action RPG, Gu Jian. The game has now been listed on the PC platform, giving players their first comprehensive look at its mythical Chinese world. Drawing from ancient mythology and supernatural folklore, Gu Jian places players in the role of a di jie si pan (Underworld Judge) who travels through realms where order has broken down. Players will collect wandering souls, uncover their stories, and seek the truth behind their unresolved fates.
The title is a full action role-playing game blending elements of ancient Chinese mythology with the strange tales of Chinese folklore. As an Underworld Judge, the player character walks between the realms of the living and the dead, tasked with bringing balance back to a world in disarray. The narrative explores themes of life, death, and karma, with the core journey described as one of self-discovery and resolution for restless spirits.
Combat in Gu Jian requires mastery of both physical techniques and supernatural abilities. The Underworld Judge is equipped with a spirit-binding rope called gu hun suo, alongside an array of underworld法器 (ritual tools) that can be used in battle. Players can engage enemies through close-quarters martial combat or by unleashing special attacks using these mystical tools.
