Game Capture Setup Guide

How to think through a clean game capture setup with HDMI output, USB capture, cables, software, and basic troubleshooting paths.

Map the signal path first

Connect the console or dock HDMI output to the capture card HDMI input, then connect the capture card USB output to the computer. If the card has HDMI passthrough, connect that output to the display; the display is not normally an input to the capture computer.

  • First connect the source directly to the display with a known-good cable to check that the source produces a picture.
  • Use the capture card input and output labels to check direction, then connect USB with a data-capable cable.
  • A working passthrough picture does not prove that USB capture works; check the captured preview separately.

Check USB capture before opening the full workflow

Open the linked capture card test, allow camera access, and select the capture card rather than the built-in webcam. Close other applications using the device if the preview cannot start. Browser testing requires a device and driver that expose video through the browser camera interface.

  • If the card is missing from the selector, check browser permission, the operating-system device list, the USB port, and the cable before changing HDMI settings.
  • If the card appears but shows black video, recheck the source output, HDMI input, and a resolution and refresh rate supported by the capture card.
  • Protected content may not be capturable. Do not treat a black preview as proof that the card is defective or try to bypass content protection.
  • After the browser preview works, stop the test and select the same device in Jemdo Studio. Check recorded audio separately; a visible video frame does not validate the audio path.

Use browser checks to narrow down the problem. Results describe what the browser can observe, not a hardware certification.
