World War Z Limitless Strain Update Goes Live with Free Content and Paid Skins
Saber Interactive has released the Limitless Strain update for World War Z, the cooperative zombie shooter, on June 18, 2026. The update is now available across PlayStation, Xbox Series, and PC platforms. This free content update introduces seven new weapon perks, daily challenges for the Horde Mode, six mutation modifiers, and three unlockable avatar frames. In addition, two character-themed paid weapon skin DLC packs have launched alongside the update. The patch also marks the official addition of Xbox Play Anywhere support, allowing cross-platform progression between Xbox consoles and Windows PCs.
Seven new weapon perks have been added to expand build customization: Triple Shot, Home Stretch, Dance Till The End, (Un)natural Magnetism, Bullets Cashback, To Your Health, and Delayed Explosion. These perks cover damage output, sustain, and utility, allowing players to tailor their loadouts more flexibly. For Horde Mode, seven new daily challenges are now available, including objectives such as keeping zombies from damaging the final gate for four consecutive waves, completing five secondary objectives, placing seven barbed wires or mortars, spending 1,500 resources, and surviving ten waves on hard difficulty.
Six new mutation modifiers have been added to increase match variety. Lethal Fumes causes Booster zombies to infect surrounding zombies upon death. Still Alive restricts kills to headshots only. Deafening Scream spreads the Screamer’s roar across the entire map. Power Cut disables electric grids during horde waves. Overheat causes mounted machine guns to overheat and become temporarily unusable. Copycat restricts each wave to only one special zombie type. Three new avatar frames can also be unlocked through specific milestones: Among the Dead, Ninja, and Head Hunter, each tied to challenging in-game achievements.
Two Chibi-themed weapon skin packs are available as paid DLC. The Chibi Bunko pack includes five skins for the 1911 Protector, TMP5, HAMR-17, ACW-20, and RPG4. The Chibi Daniela pack covers the Mini-21, Dunali SxS, LAR, BSS-2, and SchreiTech Forest Warrior. Additionally, World War Z now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning players who purchase the digital version from the Microsoft Store gain access on both Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11 PCs at no extra cost. Game progress, saves, and achievements are synced across both platforms. This is a solid update that breathes fresh life into the co-op shooter and gives existing players plenty of reasons to jump back in.
