The Witcher 3 Switch 2 Remaster Boosts Textures and Frame Rate

A new comparison of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on Switch 2 and the original Switch release shows a difference described as visible to the naked eye. The remastered version has received a comprehensive overhaul of its visual systems, resulting in noticeably sharper presentation and richer detail. The report also notes that the upgrade is being offered free of charge to returning players, which could make the Switch 2 edition an attractive proposition for those who already own the game on Nintendo’s earlier hybrid console.
The remastered edition upgrades textures, character models, vegetation, distant rendering, sky and cloud layers, and the overall lighting system. These changes translate into improved clarity, material detail, and atmosphere on Switch 2 compared with the original Switch version. Lighting and shadow handling are singled out as more natural and more layered, giving scenes a greater sense of depth. According to the comparison, the gap between the two versions is substantial enough to be immediately apparent during normal play.

On Switch 2, the game targets 720p in handheld mode and 1080p when docked, with a frame rate target of 30 to 40 FPS. The remaster also supports variable refresh rate, and the experience moves closer to the 40 FPS ceiling when paired with a 120Hz display. By contrast, the original Switch version has long been locked at 30 FPS, so the improvement in smoothness is described as immediately noticeable for players.

The upgrade is free for veteran players. Owners of the original Switch digital version can claim the remastered edition through the digital storefront, while physical edition owners can apply for the free upgrade entitlement after launch. The Switch 2 version does not include the path tracing found in the PC release, but for a handheld platform it is said to push the portable Witcher 3 experience to a new level. For fans who value portability, this free upgrade looks like a genuinely generous offer worth considering.
