The Outlast Trials Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 With Crossplay

Red Barrels has announced that The Outlast Trials, its multiplayer co-op survival horror title, is now officially available on the Nintendo Switch 2. According to the studio, players can enter the Sinyala facility anytime in handheld mode and experience the chilling Cold War-era human experimentation scenarios the game is built around. The Switch 2 version arrives roughly two and a half years after the game first appeared in early access, and it brings the full cooperative horror experience to a portable Nintendo system for the first time.
Red Barrels originally launched The Outlast Trials in May 2023 as an early access title on PC platforms, where it sold more than 500,000 copies in its first week. The game later received its full release on March 5, 2024, arriving on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Switch 2 edition now joins that lineup, extending the game’s reach to Nintendo’s newest hardware while retaining the content and structure established across the earlier platforms.

Set during the Cold War, The Outlast Trials casts players as test subjects inside the Sinyala facility, where the Murkoff corporation conducts experiments in the name of “progress, science, and profit.” The organization is described as testing advanced brainwashing and mind control technology on human subjects. That premise anchors the game’s tone, framing each trial as part of a larger, unsettling corporate program rather than a standalone scare sequence, which is the same narrative foundation the title has carried since its early access debut.

The game supports both solo play and two-to-four-player cooperative sessions, letting players attempt trials alone or team up with friends against the facility’s threats. Core gameplay centers on stealth and evasion, with players using tools supplied by Murkoff to improve concealment and create chances to escape. Character customization, cell room decoration, and item upgrades round out the progression systems. Full crossplay is supported, so Switch 2 owners can group with PC and console players. For horror fans who prefer company over cupboards, that flexibility is a welcome addition.
