Steins;Gate RE:BOOT Pre-Orders Open, Gamma World Line Route Revealed
Pre-orders for Steins;Gate RE:BOOT opened on August 6 across Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, and PC platforms, developer MAGES. has announced. The remake of the 2009 Xbox 360 original is scheduled to launch on August 20, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Based on the Steins;Gate Elite scenario and adjusted for better pacing and readability, the remake adds a new Gamma world line route in which mad scientist protagonist Hououin Kyouma does not exist, alongside fresh ending scenarios. The franchise has sold more than four million copies worldwide since the original’s debut.
All in-game voice work has been re-recorded for the remake, while composer Abo Takeshi has remade the entire soundtrack. Character art, backgrounds, and event stills have been redrawn from the line art stage, with event stills roughly doubling in number and background graphics increasing by about 1.2 times compared to the Xbox 360 version. Character designs have been refreshed by artist huke, and the game now uses the E-mote animation tool to bring characters to life with subtle facial expressions and natural breathing movements, deepening immersion in the story.

The PS4 and Xbox Series X|S versions are download-only, with Xbox and PC releases handled by Spike Chunsoft. The limited edition includes a special outer box featuring huke’s package illustration, the VISUAL COLLECTION art book (A5, 36 pages), a SOUNDTRACK DVD-ROM with 35 remade tracks, and a Blu-ray/DVD of the STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE – ONE WORLD – event held on October 27, 2024. The standard edition for Switch and PS5 is priced at 7,480 yen (~$50 / ~¥365), the download version at 6,380 yen (~$43 / ~¥310), and the digital deluxe edition, bundling a digital visual book, soundtrack, and live footage, at 11,880 yen (~$80 / ~¥580). The game carries a CERO C (15+) rating in Japan.

The announcement also detailed a retro 8-bit adventure based on the franchise, originally released for Windows on October 28, 2011, now receiving its first console port. Built around the concept of recreating Steins;Gate as a 1980s PC adventure, it features command-input gameplay, line-and-paint graphics reproduction, and FM and PSG sound emulation, with BGM programmed by Abo Takeshi himself. With the remastered main title arriving later this month, this is shaping up to be an excellent time for Steins;Gate fans to return to Akihabara.
