Smash Bros. Sequel, Nintendogs Headline Massive Nintendo Lineup Leak
Ahead of two upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations, a sweeping leak covering multiple major first-party titles has drawn widespread attention in the gaming community. The report, attributed to a leaker known as Malo932, claims that a brand-new Super Smash Bros. game is currently in development. The same leak also spans the return of classic franchises, fresh installments for beloved series, and planned downloadable content. Nintendo has yet to issue any official response to these claims. With the Directs still ahead, it remains unclear exactly which of the rumored projects will be unveiled on stage.
According to Malo932, the Super Smash Bros. project in the works is a proper new entry — and notably not a port or enhanced version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Considering that Ultimate has sold 38 million copies on Switch, ranking third on the console’s all-time bestseller list, Nintendo moving forward with a genuine successor comes as little surprise. Still, the explicit exclusion of a port option has left many players excited, as the series will not simply be carried over as-is. The revelation suggests Nintendo is prepared to invest in a brand-new installment for the franchise.
Another highlight is the return of Nintendogs, Nintendo’s classic virtual pet simulation series, which has delighted longtime fans. The franchise’s last installment, Nintendogs + Cats, launched as a Nintendo 3DS title back in 2011, more than 15 years ago. Malo932’s leak also points to paid downloadable content for Mario Kart World planned for 2027, adding Star Fox protagonist Fox McCloud as a playable character. A standalone Star Fox title is likewise said to be in development, giving the franchise two potential appearances in the reported plans.
The remaining claims include a brand-new 3D Super Mario game reportedly planned for 2027, a new 2D Metroid title currently in development, a pixel-art style remake of Super Metroid, and a fresh installment in the Wario Land series. Nintendo has made no official comment on any of the reports so far. Given the company’s long-standing reliance on surprise reveals as a core part of its marketing strategy, a leak on this scale is certain to frustrate Nintendo. Whether the two Directs will confirm any of these titles remains to be seen — but this rumored lineup alone makes them well worth watching.
