Raiders of Blackveil Drops The Ghoulag Update With New Boss Fights

Raiders of Blackveil, the extraction-based PvE title from developer Wombo Games, has received a major content update titled “The Ghoulag” on May 19. This update introduces players to a new region — an interrogation stronghold built atop a haunted, heavily monitored ruin within the dystopian industrial fantasy world of Blackveil. The Ghoulag brings 12 new levels and a formidable area guardian known as Wanda, an owl-like final boss who actively tracks player movements throughout the zone. Drawing her attention means facing her full wrath, adding a layer of persistent tension to each raid. Players must work together with teammates to survive, loot, and extract successfully.
The Ghoulag update expands the game’s map with a full new area serving as Blackveil’s interrogation compound. The region’s final overseer, Wanda, patrols the zone and responds to player actions in real time. Alongside her, players will encounter a variety of new enemy types including Rat-Skulls, Rat-Fiends, Books of Evil, and Evil Warlocks, spread across different difficulty tiers. A new mini-boss called the Dog Trainer also joins the roster, providing additional mid-level threats during extraction runs. Each encounter requires players to adapt their strategies based on the threats they face.

The update introduces region-exclusive gear with unique buff effects designed to help players tackle The Ghoulag. A new Hero-Specific Buff system allows players to modify and significantly empower their chosen hero’s abilities, unlocking new build combinations and combat strategies. A Buff Enhancement system further enables players to dive deeper into specific buff effects, adjusting their tactics as they grow stronger. Additionally, an Offline Play Mode — the most requested feature since early access launched — has been added, allowing solo play without an internet connection.

Raiders of Blackveil is developed by Wombo Games, an independent studio based in Copenhagen led by Janos Flösser, co-founder of IO Interactive and former Chief Creative Officer at Square Enix. The team of 21 developers includes veterans who worked on the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Just Cause, Hitman, and Kane & Lynch series. The game is currently in early access on PC, with the full 1.0 release planned for late 2026. Its story follows oppressed animals rising against a human-controlled super-corporation, blending MOBA-style hero design, deep RPG gear systems, and PvE extraction gameplay. This substantial update demonstrates strong ongoing support for the title during its early access period.
