PS5 Pro Gets Major Visual Update, Resident Evil 9 DLC Nears Completion
Sony has announced a significant visual enhancement update for the PS5 Pro, set to launch this month alongside rumors that Capcom’s Resident Evil 9: Requiem DLC is nearing completion. The PS5 Pro update introduces improved PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology that promises substantial graphics improvements across all compatible games. Meanwhile, industry insider Dusk Golem has revealed that a story-focused DLC for Resident Evil 9: Requiem is in the late stages of development, potentially featuring series veteran Leon S. Kennedy as the central character.
The PS5 Pro update will bring enhanced PSSR technology that significantly improves image quality while maintaining performance. According to Digital Foundry testing, the new PSSR implementation on PS5 Pro can achieve higher resolutions and smoother frame rates without sacrificing performance. The technology will be tested in Resident Evil: Requiem, with a new “PSSR Quality Enhancement” option appearing in the console settings. Sony claims the update theoretically supports all games and positions PS5 Pro’s PSSR as competitive with PC technologies like FSR 4 and DLSS 4.5, with only minor aliasing in some scenes.
Industry insider Dusk Golem has reported that the Resident Evil 9: Requiem DLC is in “late-stage development.” The DLC is rumored to focus on Leon S. Kennedy’s personal storyline, though the exact scope remains unclear. Dusk Golem mentioned that while he previously discussed character Elisa having a complete playable model potentially intended for DLC, recent indications suggest the Leon-focused content is more likely. The insider confirmed the DLC’s existence and noted that director Akira Nakanishi had previously hinted at playable content outside the main story.
In other gaming news, the multiplayer title Peak Guard, which served as the closing act at The Game Awards, will shut down its servers on March 12 after just over a month of operation since its January 26 launch. Meanwhile, Team NINJA’s action RPG Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty celebrated its three-year anniversary on March 3, with developer Koei Tecmo releasing commemorative artwork. Xbox also announced its March Game Pass lineup, including major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hollow Knight: Silksong, with various games joining throughout the month.
