Open-Source XodusNexus Brings Game Pass to Linux Handhelds

The long-standing tie between PC Game Pass and Windows is being challenged by an open-source effort. XodusNexus, a derivative of the open-source project Xodus, is designed to run Xbox PC titles and PC Game Pass subscription games on Linux systems. Where the original relied on command-line operation, XodusNexus adds a graphical interface, allowing users to browse the Xbox catalog directly, manage an installation queue, and download required prerequisite components. It also supports Xbox cloud saves and sign-in functionality for select titles, according to the project’s documentation.
A recent update introduced experimental support for Linux-based gaming handhelds, including gamepad navigation and integration with handheld game modes. Users can reportedly add the launcher itself, or individual games, into their handheld libraries for quicker access. One notable limitation applies: the project currently requires the native Linux client, and the Flatpak version is not supported at this time. That restriction could matter for users who prefer sandboxed package formats on their devices.

The project lists a range of tested titles that reportedly run, including Gears of War: E-Day, Forza Horizon 6, Deep Rock Galactic, Minecraft Dungeons II, No Man’s Sky, Palworld, Sea of Thieves, Hogwarts Legacy, and Fallout 76. Some of these titles also support online functionality, though the scope of that support varies between games. The list covers both single-player experiences and live-service releases, suggesting progress across different types of Xbox PC software.
Despite the progress, the project remains at an early stage. Some games still fail to run, older UWP-based titles are not supported at all, and sign-in or online multiplayer features may encounter problems. For players hoping for a frictionless setup, tempering expectations is wise. Still, a working graphical front end with cloud saves on Linux is a meaningful step, and this is a project worth watching for handheld owners who subscribe to Game Pass.
